Beware! According to the Delaware Department of Agriculture, there is a “substantial rise” of wild potbellied pigs.
Feral pigs have long been a concern across the country, but the number of stray potbellied pigs in Delaware has been increasing since 2016, according to Hofmann.
She claimed they get calls about pigs on the loose at least once a day.
They’re most common in residential and rural regions, particularly in Kent and Sussex counties.
Pigs discovered on state grounds will be “dispatched promptly,” according to Hofmann.
All pig owners are encouraged by the Department of Agriculture to spay and neuter their animals.
Hofmann believes that pigs raised outside should have safe fencing.
